Pro-China elements who had
been caught attacking TV reporters in the streets of Hong Kong last year were
allowed to obscure their faces with masks and shower caps during a police
identification parade. This revelation
came after the announcement by the police last week that they did not have
enough evidence to prosecute the alleged offenders, despite ample video footage
from various media outlets and numerous eye witnesses. Needless to say, the victims were unable to
identify their assailants in the parade.
This is yet another blatant attempt by the Hong Kong authorities to
protect China’s foot soldiers acting in the interests of their Beijing masters.
A similar scandal occurred last month when seven policemen accused of assaulting a handcuffed activist refused to co-operate in an identification parade. The then-police commissioner Andy Tsang said the accused policemen had every right not to co-operate. |
